In 1988, you could catch the “Chelsi Om’nira” show 7 days a week at the “Fireplace” in her Dallas, TX home. Like most gifted musicians she started out singing in the children's choir in her home church Good Street Missionary Baptist church of Dallas, TX. She officially made her debut in 4th grade singing “Sweet Little Jesus Boy” at her school St. Anthony’s Catholic school. As she continued to grow and study music she was invited to do public recitals within her home church.
An early childhood specialist diagnosed her for having a natural aptitude for sound and when she was born her mother’s musically gifted friend Michael Terrell said, “Spell Chelsi with an “i” for a musical ending”. Therefore she was destined to be apart of the Music world since the day she was born.
Her love and appreciation for Music led her to study voice at Prairie View A&M University College of Music under Mr. Leon Turner. The highlight of her undergraduate experience came in September, 2007 when she sang at the Oath of Office Ceremony for inductees to the Board of Regents for the Texas A&M Systems in Bryan, Texas. She graduated from Prairie View in December 2008 receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Music. After graduating from Prairie View A&M University she continued to study voice in the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University under Barbara Hill-Moore and received vocal coaching from Jason Smith. While studying at Meadows School of the Arts she received principal and small principal roles for Opera Scene performances such as the “1st Lady” from Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte”, “Sister Angelica” from Puccini’s “Suor Angelica”, “Bess” from “Porgy & Bess” by Gerswhin, “Bridesmaid” in “Le Nozze di Figaro” by Mozart and she was apart of the Opera Ensemble for “La Bohème” by Puccini. In 2014 she had the privilege of being hired by the Fort Worth Opera company to be an ensemble member for the opera “Pearl Fishers” by Georges Bizet. Ms. Clark’s voice has not only been classified as a Lyric or Spento Soprano but a voice that is suitable for Puccini, therefore she had the opportunity to perform for the Puccini Society of Dallas. After rehearsing “The Lord’s Prayer” for The Congress of Christian Education National Baptist Convention, Mr. Curtis King of the Dallas Black Academy of Arts & Letters was so impressed that he decided to let her showcase her gift alongside Mr. Highway Sigadi in “An Evening of Spirituals”. She even has a love musical theatre which landed her the principal role as “Doris” in “The Color Purple” by Marsha Norman for Denton Campus community theatre. On April 2nd, 2015 in Dallas, TX she was invited by her former voice professor to perform in the world premiere of the opera “Wading Home” which is based off of a novel written by Rosalyn Story and composed by Mary Alice Rich.
In order to further her career as professional opera singer Ms.Clark took a huge leap of faith and relocated to the East coast for more opportunities. Upon her arrival she had the privilege of doing the “Ben Holt Memorial Branch Masterclass” with national and international opera singer Marquita Lister. She is currently continuing to train for future roles to come.
Outside of performing she shares her love of Music with the hearts and minds of children. Ms. Clark plans to have a promising and fulfilling career as an opera singer.
